Groundbreaking ceremony held for Gita Nagari
On 17 April 2021, Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School held a small groundbreaking ceremony to formally announce the construction of a new building called Gita Nagari. The ceremony was scaled back due to current pandemic measures, as current restrictions allow only a few people to gather outdoors.
The event was organized with limited people, and HG Leela Purushottam Prabhu and HG Narayani Mataji attended it online due to Covid-19 norms. HG Radhakant Prabhu, with some other devotees at Vrindaranyam, laid the foundation stone of the building, which is expected to be completed by 2022. Pujaris from Iskcon Vrindavan, headed by HG Raghunath Prabhu, did the rituals for the ‘Bhoomi puja' at the new building site.
The new building is primarily meant for the visiting family members of students, official guests of the school and devotees who intend to spend their life after retirement (Vanaprastha) in the holy land of Vrindavan.
The vanaprastha order is complete retirement from householder life, a time when one prepares oneself for going back to Godhead. It requires shedding one’s material attachments to become free of the repetition of birth and death. Every man and woman should be trained for this purpose.
Srila Prabhupada wanted to establish varnasrama-dharma, and specifically, daiva varnasrama-dharma, in ISKCON to save human society from gliding down to hellish life.
Daiva-varnasrama is defined as strictly following the principles of the Vedas and, particularly, becoming Krishna conscious.
Gita Nagari at BGIS is an attempt to fulfill that desire of Srila Prabhupada so that devotees can prepare for the remaining days of their life for achieving the ultimate goal.
According to Srila Prabhupada, the main goal of vanaprastha is to develop detachment from the material world.
